Wrong Way Detection

Opsys’ proprietary LiDAR technology provides real-time reliable detection of wrong-way driving. Opsys’ LiDAR solution, the ALTOS, provides instant signaling to alert the driver as well as oncoming traffic to save lives. LiDAR enables detection in all weather conditions, including at night, where cameras  often fail. 


The ALTOS creates a real-time 4D image of the vehicle and the road and uses this info to provide the wrong-way warnings, unlike traditional wrong-way systems. By using an optional ethernet relay with analog outputs, the system can be used to trigger, for example, a warning sign directly. The ALTOS can also be integrated into D/IO or NTCIP as well as more complex traffic management systems using protocols like NTCIP.

ALTOS 150 for Wrong Way Detection

This point cloud video shows Opsys’ demo software monitoring traffic on a regular two-lane road. The ALTOS detects wrong way by analyzing the vehicle’s driving direction. The Opsys’ demo software, Opsight, visualises when a car is driving in the wrong direction, and at the same time, can measure vehicle speed.

In this recording the ALTOS 150 unit is used with its maximum range of 150m and a FoV of 45° x 13°. The fully integrated solution is a perfect fit for different traffic monitoring application thanks to its simple installation and low cost due to the integrated perception stack.
